I have been taking piano lessons for about a year and a half at this place called RMC Studio in Garwood. Annie started with me but did not really like it but I LOVE it. In fact, starting this summer, I am increasing my lessons from 1/2 hour to a full hour and will throw in some saxophone lessons with my teacher Miss Molly.
Last night I participated in my first open mic night at RMC Studios. Mom and Dad have been encouraging me to try one. Last night’s open mic was also a Super Smash Bros tournament so it seemed like the perfect first one for me. Unfortunately, I lost in the semi-finals of the tournament (and blame the controller, of course), but I rocked my piano performance. I played a song from the video game Bayonetta (that one that Mom and Dad still won’t let me get for some reason despite). I was nervous but did my best and had a lot of fun. Also, a lot of other kids, including the older ones, later told me it was cool I played a song from that game.
The most fun was at the end, as they started to clean up, my friend Samuel and I jumped on stage and started to just jam. Samuel played the drums and then sang to 21 Pilots and Queen songs. I didn’t know how to play them but was able to figure them out by just listening and playing around on the keyboard. I think Samuel and I need to start thinking of band names!
This was my first, but definitely not my last open mic! I had a blast. A special thank you to Grandpa and Uncle Chris, who came all the way from Brooklyn, for coming out to cheer me on.
